While missions has always been a very strong core value of Open Doors Church And World Outreach, local outreach has become our primary emphasis. During a special time of prayer some years back, the Lord dealt with Pastor Randy about reaching out to tangibly touch the community with the love of God. Since that time Open Doors Church has begun to participate in various local events to create a greater awareness of the church’s presence and availability to the community, as well as beginning new ministries to meet the needs of people in tangible and practical ways.

A food shelf ministry, Jehovah's Pantry, was created for the purpose of providing basic necessities to families that are struggling. We have recently expanded the possibilities of this ministry by applying to become a partner with the Vermont Food Bank to better supply the needs of people in our community. Similarly, and most recently, an annual school supplies drive was started in connection with our Vacation Bible School week (each August) to help local families provide these necessary tools for their children’s schooling. In our first year (2008), 23 backpacks with school supplies were collected and distributed through local schools to children in need. This year, 2009, we did a little better and we are expecting this outreach to increase year after year, along with our participation in other community outreaches. Our ultimate objective will always be, of course, to meet people's spiritual needs through the truths of God's Word, but it's our response to the practical needs of people that we believe will give us a credible platform to speak into their lives with the gospel of Jesus Christ.
